On April 15, HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences Institute for Political Science, in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity Hungary, organized a film screening and discussion on the intersection of energy poverty and gender inequality, as part of the Women in Solidarity for Energy (WISE) project.
During the event, four short documentary films were screened, presenting examples from different countries – Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Liberia, and Hungary – to show how energy poverty affects everyday life and why it has a particularly severe impact on women, especially those living in single-person or single-parent households.
Following the screening, a discussion took place with Zsuzsanna Koritár, policy officer at Habitat for Humanity Hungary, and Réka Sáfrány, president of the Hungarian Women’s Lobby. The conversation was moderated by Sára Szabó, project assistant at HUN-REN CSS. The participants reflected together on the current situation of energy poverty in Hungary, the lack of gender-sensitive policy approaches, and how more just solutions could be found at the community or institutional level.
The event was co-funded by the European Climate Foundation and the European Union.
